Training the next generation
Kivu WASH Fellowship
A 5-month fellowship program training Rwandan university students to lead WASH and NTD prevention in their communities.
About the fellowship
What Is the Kivu WASH Fellowship?
The Kivu WASH Fellowship is a structured training program run by the Bilharzia Storytelling Initiative. It brings together first and second year university students in Rwanda who are studying medicine, public health, pharmacy, and related fields.
Over five months, fellows take part in monthly in-person training sessions covering water, sanitation, hygiene, and neglected tropical diseases. Between sessions, they apply what they learn through community fieldwork, reflection essays, and participation tracking.
The program is also a research study. BSI measures knowledge and skills before and after the training, and the cohort's experience will be documented in a case study report designed to help other organizations replicate the model.
