BSI RwandaStories that heal

Community-led. Youth-powered.

Storytelling Lab

Using stories, sports, and community events to teach over 11,000 children about bilharzia prevention across three districts in Rwanda.

To combat NTDs in regions surrounding lakes, wetlands, and high-risk areas, and develop the talents of young people.

What we do

Four Activities

Education

Notebook Distribution

Illustrated health notebooks delivered across 11 schools in three districts, each carrying bilharzia prevention messages for students to bring home to their families.

Training

Teacher, Parent & CHW Training

Training sessions for teachers, parents, and community health workers on how bilharzia spreads, how to recognize it, and how to prevent it.

Sports

Inter-School Games

Sports competitions between schools paired with health sessions, run with MERCK and RBC support to get students engaged in NTD prevention.

Community

Entertainment Events

Music, dance, drama, and poetry events that bring communities together, showcase youth talent, and spread bilharzia prevention messages in a way that sticks.

Education session in Rwanda

How it works

Our Approach

1

Educate

Illustrated notebooks and trained teachers bring bilharzia prevention into the classroom and home.

2

Engage

Sports, music, drama, and community events make health education something people actually want to participate in.

3

Empower

Students become advocates. Communities carry the message forward without waiting for outside help.
